Back in 2013 after Portsmouth's successive relegations and administrations, the Portsmouth Supporters Trust launched a successful bid to buy the club. A year after taking over, the PST had 2,300 shareholders and had raised around £2.5m through individual pledges of £1,000.

We contacted the Portsmouth Supporters Trust in November 2012 to put forward our idea of doing a Strong Island PFC Limited Edition Tee to help raise money towards buying a share in the club. The PST warmly welcomed the idea so we went ahead designing our now well know and popular PFC design which is a re-imagining from the iconic Portsmouth FC logo from the 1980's with two swords in place that are each dated with the club’s FA Cup wins.

The Portsmouth Supporters Trust succeeded in their bid to take control of Portsmouth FC making it the biggest community owned club in the UK. It was a long and hard fought victory by the fans that endured years of bad fortune, bad news and bad performances.

Initially launched online and shortly thereafter during Fans Day at Fratton Park we pledged £5 from every sale of our PFC tees to buying a share of the football club, therefore financially helping PFC in it’s aim to become stable again and continue to be a hugely important aspect of the city.

We soon achieved our goal and became part owner of Portsmouth Community Football Club with our very own community share of the club. We continued to raise money past our share pledge amount and continued to work closely with fundraising initiatives alongside Pompey’s 12th Man and the Pompey Supporters Trust including the Fratton Park Arts project.

The success of our design lead to us achieving our 2nd share and with the new season approaching Pompey Supporters Trust and Portsmouth FC were looking at replacing many of the old and outdated pieces of artwork at Fratton Park. Three large murals were commissioned by local design giants ilovedust at the entrances to the Fratton End and one in the North Stand. Quotes and stats feature alongside iconic players, illustrated in a style that allows the club’s glorious past to shine within the setting of it’s exciting new chapter.

At Pompey Strong Island we are experts in design and print. Our sister company ‘Strong Island Clothing Co’ has been established since 2008 with a well known shop on Marmion Road, Southsea selling a wide variety of lifestyle products and more of course the classic PFC design. Our print suppliers ‘Sea Dog’ are locally renowned as the leading experts in garment printing and are located directly opposite Fratton Park.

“The team's recovery started with promotion back to the Third Division in 1980. The following season a new crest was introduced that featured an anchor and a sword to symbolise the city's links with the Royal Navy and the Army respectively. Two versions appeared one of which had at its centre a football while the other replaced this with a small version of the crescent moon and sun.”
